Symphony User Group Meeting 1/26/10

Yesterday I attended the 2nd Annual Symphony User Group meeting hosted by Capital Region BOCES School Library System. SirsiDynix Symphony is the automation system we currently use and purchase through BOCES. The purpose of these meetings is to update us on what has been accomplished since the last meeting and inform us about any new or revised procedures, options, etc. that are being implemented. Overall, it was a very informative and rewarding session. I continue to be slightly dissapointed with Sirsi's lack of attention to the needs of the School Library Community and with their reluctance to correct the flaws/programming errors we have found in the system. Below is a synopsis of what was covered at the meeting. You can also find spec sheets, school codes and other information here.

Symphony User Group Meeting Highlights:

• 3 months in review.
• New Webpage
• Lots of Cataloging
• WAE is no onlinw (YEAH)
• Inventory at several schools

Inventory - demo of equipment, process and reports

Cataloging - MARC records can be emailed to lacat@gw.neric.org

Fast Adds - Reminders:

• Use all caps for Title, Author field
• Leave item location as FAST
• Still put on list to send to BOCES for cataloging

Reporting: More info coming

• Web Reporter- will not be used as much
• Symphony Workflows - reporting features to be enabled- reports are not pretty though
• Director's Station: Ability to run reports and collection analysis- not sure about availability but everyone should have access to it.
• Many reports will still need to be run by SLS
